Andrew Hines records first 6-second Prostock Motorcycle Pass
March
21, 2005 Andrew Hines became the first Pro Stock Motorcycle rider to break the
6-second barrier with a 6.991 @ 196.16 MPH pass during qualifying for the NHRA
Gatornationals at Gainsville, FL.
Hines made the historic pass on
his second qualifying attempt on Friday March 18 with the Screamin Eagle/Vance
& Hines Harley-Davidson, etching his name forever in the record books and
nailing the $10,000 bonus for becoming the first member of the Mickey Thompson
6-Second Club.
Hines is the 2004 NHRA POWERade
Pro Stock Motorcycle champion.
We have two new bikes for this
Harley-Davidson team and the difference between last years bike and this one is
night and day, Hines said. There is a lot of great competition out there and
we kept hearing about these quick numbers other teams were producing during
off-season testing, but we just kept doing our own thing. That paid off big
time.
Hines went out in the second
round to Steve Johnson on the Snap-on Tools Suzuki with a red light. Steve went
on to win the even with a 7.139 to 7.161 pass over Craig Treble on the Matco
Tools Suzuki.
Andrews brother Matt Hines is
a three-time NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion (1997, 1998, and 1999), was the
first to make a 7.0 second pass and is the current MPH record holder at 194.10.
Hines, Johnson, and Treble all
use HPCs HiPerCoat ceramic-aluminum exhaust coating
on their headers.
